Crusty White Bread

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1/4 Cup Melted UNSALTED Butter

  • 1 Cup Whole Milk

  • 1 1/4 Cup Filtered Water

  • 6 Cups Flour

  • 3 Tablespoons Sugar

  • 2 Teaspoons Salt

  • 1 package Yeast (or 1 Tablespoon)

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Mix together 1/4 cup melted butter, 1 cup whole milk and 1 1/4 filtered water in a microwave safe bowl and microwave for 2 minutes. *NOTE - Do not allow to go above 110 degrees F or it will kill the yeast in the next step.

  2. In a separate bowl (or electric mixer), mix together 2 cups flour, 2 tablespoons sugar, 2 teaspoons salt and 1 package (or 1 tablespoon) yeast.

  3. Slowly pour the wet mixture over the dry mixture, mixing continuously to evenly mix. If you are using an electric mixer, mix on high for 3 minutes. Otherwise mix rapidly for 3 minutes.

  4. Then add another 1 cup of flour and mix on high for 5 minutes.

  5. Add another 3 cups of flour and knead for at least 5 minutes.

  6. Butter a large bowl and place your kneaded dough within it. Roll your dough around within the bowl, coating all sides with butter, ending with the top side of the dough up.

  7. Cover loosely with a clean kitchen towel and allow to rise until your mixture is over the bowl.  Then punch it down and let it rise again. *NOTE: Please keep your dough in a warm, non-drafty area to allow it to rise properly. If this is a problem, you can warm your oven to 85 degrees, turn it off, and place your mixture in the warmed oven to rise.

  8. Butter two, full size bread pans.

  9. Remove your dough from bowl and place on a lightly floured counter. Cut your dough into two pieces and let rest for 15 minutes.  

  10. Shape dough and place into two buttered loaf pans. Place kitchen towel over pans to allow dough to rise, doubling in size or until it is over the top of the pan.

  11. Bake at 400 degrees for approximately 20 minutes.  Your bread should brown up nicely and you should be able to gently tap on the top. 

Once your bread is baked, slice and addd your butter and favorite jam for the perfect homemade treat!
